JEWEL FLOWERS Vintage Original Illustration PHOTO ROLF ARMSTRONG Sexy 40s PinUp
This photo was printed around the late 1930s to the early 1940’s. This photo was originally owned by JEWEL FLOWERS, herself. In her estate, she gifted this photo to Mike Wooldridge, who was a lifetime collector of pin-up art and wrote the book, ” PIN-UP DREAM”, a monograph on ROLF ARMSTRONG. Jewel Flowers was an American pin-up model best known for her work with ROLF ARMSTRONG as a “Calendar Girl” during the 1940s and 1950s. ROLF ARMSTRONG is considered one of the greatest pin-up and calendar artists, if not the master of all time. Prior to the mid-1930’s, ARMSTRONG used several different live models for his drawings. But, in the mid-1930’s he met JEWEL FLOWERS and he considered her the perfect, dream come-true model and started using her primarily as his only live model for his drawings and she was definitely his favorite model. In fact, in later years, he legally adopted her. Meisel, co-author of, “The Great American Pin-Up”, said she was “the last of the great models” drawn by illustrators. Very RARE to find a vintage original photo printed in the 1940’s of JEWEL FLOWERS, modeling for ROLF ARMSTRONG. This illustration is one of the more famous illustrations of JEWEL FLOWERS and is a well-known illustration of her among collectors. The photo is in VERY GOOD condition, with minor edgewear and minor waviness along the top and bottom borders. This is a VINTAGE ORIGINAL Photograph and NOT a Reproduction Restrike.
