This large-format photograph depicts an original land allotment holder, Robert “Bob” Morrell and his wife Grace Penn Morrell on the Osage Nation reservation at Hominy Oklahoma. Robert Morrell, who was raised in Grayhorse but married Grace Penn and moved to Hominy where her family was from. Both are dressed in full native garb. Robert wears a single head feather and has a tail feather fan in his hand. I found an online image of a photograph that depicts a large group of Osage on the farm of a well-known original allotment holder, Robert “Bob” Morrell (and his wife Grace Penn Morrell), on the Osage Nation reservation. The occasion was the first Princess celebration on June 10, 1929 and does not appear to be otherwise recorded. It may have been the precursor to the current Osage Tribal Princess Sorority, which elected its first princess in 1941. The Osage Tribal Princess represents her nation with other tribal princess representatives at the annual American Indian Exposition. About 8″ x 10″. This image has pin holes on all four edges that do impact the image. Still, with good matting, this is a powerful image of a noted Osage tribal family.
