RARE 1/6 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE – BOLD 1840’S LADY IN FINE RARE WOLFERTS ROOST CASE – You are considering a boldly captured sixth plate portrait of a lovely lady dressed in a fantastic print dress by what appears to have been a talented itinerant Daguerreian. The simple backdrop and side lighting confirms this was an effort shot inside a traveling wagon in my expert opinion. The image resides in the original and rare Wolfert’s Roost case. The case is named for a literary character in a Washington Irving novel and a location in NY State. The case is in near mint condition with the original hinge intact. A truly wonderful cased sixth plate from the first decade of the medium. Good luck to the winner and next caretaker. The image is free of any imperfections and has been resealed with P90+ and new glass applied. The sixth plate tintype has excellent contrast, nice tonal range and wonderful sharpness. Subtle hand tinting was applied to the young lady’s face. Again, the rarely seen case is in near mint condition with the original hinge intact, the gorgeous velvet plush and both working clasps are present.
