A man that threw the only pitch that resulted in the death of a player. This event took place in 1920, several years before this image and when Mays was pitching for the New York Yankees. The fateful event took place at the Polo Grounds in New York on August 16, 1920 in a game between the Cleveland Indians and the New York Yankees. Although, Chapman was alive when taken from the field to the hospital he died early the following morning. While vintages images of Mays are rare and desirable, this is one of his best. Please excuse any shadows appearing in the photos. I can provide additional photos or scans upon request. Please view all photos including the description contained in the Letter of Authenticity as it forms the basis of information regarding this photo. Please pay particular attention to size and description of any major defects. You can also visited their website online. Please understand that the photos I have up for sale are vintage originals and while in some cases you may find a modern reprint of the same image at a significantly lower cost, this is akin to purchasing a reproduction of a vintage baseball card. The originals are valuable while the reprints while suitable display items for some individual typically have little value.
