Intriguing antique 19th century, c1870s, original Gem tintype photograph depicting either a woman or boy in what I believe is either fireman’s formal uniform with brass buttons (with Eagles on them) and hat or an occupation associated with the railroad or trolley cars. I thought also possibly a military cadet? She or he can be seen smoking a cigarette. The hat has a great brass front plate presumably identifying the Company; I tried to get a good zoom in of the text but it wasn’t easy, possibly a’5′ in the center. Presumably a San Francisco area worker for this tintype along with a handful of others came out of a Hayward, California estate which is less than 30 miles from San Francisco, California. Exhibits some scuffs and scratches as well as a vertical bend. Measures slightly smaller than a 1/16 plate and slightly larger than a gem size coming in at 1 1/2″ x 1″. Comes housed in a rigid clear protective sleeve. Please enjoy the photos for further item details and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
