John Wimberley has stopped (see below) making his custom darkroom. That’s right after 50 years John Wimberley has. Announced that his darkroom is now gone and his last black and white handmade darkroom photographs were made last year. John Wimberley, the “King of the Clouds” photographer. Here is a portion of his newsletter from a few years ago. In the near future my website will be updated with a gallery of new work in color. I switched to that medium over a year ago, and it has deeply revitalized my photography. Last month, my first exhibition of color prints at LightBox Gallery in Astoria, Oregon, was very well received. Since the late 1960’s John Wimberley photographed and printed in black and white. Over the years he exposed, developed and printed many thousands of large and medium format negatives. That season of his photography is now closed. He only orders he can fill are from his stock on hand. That stock has already been depleted of many of the more popular images by dealers. If you have ever seen one of John’s images in real life, then you also know how wonderful they are. A master printer, his images will stand up to any of the masters of photography. This handmade darkroom photo is in mint condition, mounted/matted with archival museum board. Signed by the artist under the image, edition # might be different than shown. Wimberley (born July 1945) is an American photographer and artist. He has photographed extensively in the American West.
