Early California Hand-Colored Photograph of Yosemite’Indians’ -1910 Arts&Crafts. Fine and large hand-colored tinted photograph of the Yosemite Valley in California. Silver-gelatin photograph with painted surface. SIZE – 9 x 12. This is an antique hand-colored photograph – not a reproduction. The image depicts a man and woman dressed in Native American clothing, standing on a rock outcropping in Mirror Lake in the Yosemite Valley. The people are dressed in Plains Indian costumes, with the man wearing a feathered headdress while shooting a bow and arrow upward. The woman is striking a pose and although it is possible that these Indians are not Native Americans, just dressed up in the costumes for the photo, it may also be possible that the photographer hired local Native Americans to pose for the photograph. The photograph is not signed and the photographer is unknown to me. It is very nicely composed and painted. SIZE – 9″ x 12″. Excellent condition with no damage or restoration. The hand-coloring is original to the photograph which is over 100 years old. This piece will be a quality addition to any collection of American or California Art Photography and will display beautifully in any decor: Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Americana, Stickley Era, Craftsman, Monterey Style, Eames Era, Shabby Chic, or Contemporary.
