This is a vintage original 8×10 in. US double-weight matte photograph of silent film actor RUDOLPH VALENTINO c. The handsome Italian actor is depicted in a tan three-piece suit and tie as he signs in the compartment of a train while smoking a cigarette and looking deep in thought. It is in fine+ condition with two small diagonal creases on the top right corner within the borders only; a light 1.5 in. Creases on the bottom left corner within the borders only; and light signs of wear on the bottom right corner. The image quality is very sharp with fine detail and nice contrast. This vintage original photograph has a great provenance: it was once in the Sydney R. Barker Collection , who was perhaps the most famous of the early collectors on Valentino, as well as The Chicago Valentino Memorial Club (per their rubber stamp on the bottom of the verso). Barker hand-wrote a notation on the verso in black ink that this image was of “Valentino passing thru Chicago for the last time, ” which indicates that he was most likely coming from either Los Angeles or New York and that this photograph was taken in 1926, the year of his untimely death at the age of 31.
