Siegfried Enkelmann rare vintage gelatin silver print, Harald Kreutzberg, 1930s. Siegfried Enkelmann is considered the leading dance photographer of the 1940s thru the 60s in Germany. Der Ahnende (The apprehensive). Photomontage combining a dramatic expression of dancer and choreographer Harald Kreutzberg with a street scene photographed in Berlin in the late 1930s showing SA (the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party) marching. This is an extremely rare and shockingly political image by dance photographer Siegfried Enkelmann! It is unknown but possible that this artwork was never published! According to Enkelmanns nomenclature this photomontage was created in the late 1930s, or at least the photographs were taken at that time. But considering how extremely dangerous it was to create politically critical artwork in Nazi Germany it is likely that Enkelmann only combined these photographs after the fall of the Nazi regime. Late 1930s, possibly late 1940s. 11.75 x 9.5 (circa 29.8 x 24 cm). Good to very good (C5, according to the Iguide Universal Grading Scale) Corners on the right side of the print show some wear, the edges are mostly clean. There are relatively few dust specks and negative-based scratches visible. I grade these prints according to the Iguide Universal Grading Scale. C10 Mint – Investment quality. No perceptible flaws of any kind. C9 Near Mint – Investment quality. Minor flaw on an otherwise unused. C8 Excellent – Investment quality. A few minor defects. Pin holes, small tears, etc. C7 Very Good to Excellent – Fine. Still a very nicely preserved item. C6 Very Good – The typical used in average condition. Several defects C5 Good to Very Good – A heavily-worn item C4 Good – Below average but still suitable for display. C3 Fair – Heavily worn, but yet still complete. C2 Poor to Fair – An extremely worn, possibly even incomplete item. C1 Poor – The lowest grade, representing items in the lowest possible condition. Thank you for your interest!
