FINE PHOTO GALLERIES is pleased to offer this original vintage 1920’s photograph by the renowned French artist Marcel Paul Meys. Throughout his career Meys was drawn to and specialized in nude studies both in painting and photography. His most famous painting was an art nouveau female nude study entitled “Neries”. In the 1920’s Meys increasingly inspired by the art deco movement, turned primarily to photography and received critical acclaim for his outdoor nude studies often staged in remote locations with backdrops of beaches or rugged mountains and wilderness. In these nude studies Meys juxtaposed shapely fit models (beautiful French girls) with porcelain type skin against the rough natural elements. Mey’s models often wore headbands and assumed poses that echoed the art deco “look” of the times. In addition to his widely successful nude studies Meys was also an early pioneer of color photography process and most particularly the autochrome.
