Vintage Mid Century Modernist Photography-Surreal Female Nudes-Andre Kertesz-Set of 8. This vintage set of eight (8) genuine photogravure images by the world famous master photographer Andre Kertesz. They were created from the original glass negatives made in 1932. They are part of his significant series of 200 surrealist female nude studies (120 of these were exhibited with much fanfare and attention). These quality sheet fed gravure prints were originally issued as part of a hardbound compilation of photo-gravures printed in Spain in 1976 from the meticulously restored glass negatives. These were the only gravures ever printed from the original glass negatives. Dimensions: Image size varies; 8.25″ x 11″ (Sheet). The images were made with a glass plate view camera. Kertesz used two female models, Najinskaya Verackatz and Nadia Kasine. He began his surrealist experimentation with mirrors. The series was first exhibited in Paris in 1932 with such success that it catapulted Kertesz to international fame. Hi became even more famous after he exhibited the series in New York at the Museum f Modern Art in 1936. By the 1960s the complete series of original glass negatives was thought to have been permanently lost due to deterioration and oxidation. In the early 1970s advances in technology enabled a restoration expert to solve the problem and save the images. The restorer meticulously worked on the negatives until the collection was restored to its original beauty for the 1976 printing of these extraordinary photogravures.
