Ten Original Vintage Photo Negatives of Her Hat Designs. Taken by Photographer Hans Kropf (please read brief bio above). Beautiful models wearing the latest in 1930s-1940 era hats. The 2.25″ square negatives are almost all in excellent condition; only a couple with any edge or corner wear we had modern 5″ square prints made from the negatives recently to show the amazing clarity and crisp details. French-born Lilly Daché was among the most innovative and celebrated milliners in the. Especially during the 1930s and 1940s, a time when hats were the centerpieces of a woman’s wardrobe. Daché advanced quickly from millinery sales at Macy’s to opening her own shop in the same year. By 1937 there was a Lily Daché millinery empire. Her 7-story building housed a boutique as well as manufacturing facilities for her hats, pocketbooks, and shoes. Designer Travis Banton, Daché also created hats for the movies, including Carmen Miranda’s famous fruit turban. Stars like Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow and Marlene Dietrich. Her last customer was Loretta Young, who arrived at her studio after Miss Dache decided to retire and bought her last 30 hats. Please see notes about the photographer in the last image shown above.
