This very unusual (note scissors) and rare 1800s cabinet card photo was found in an estate with other 1800s timepieces. As seen on the back of the photo the subject is identified as being a fishing lure factory located in South Otselic, New York. It was written once in cursive at the top from the original owner / photographer, and once again most likely by an antique dealer or family member. After researching fishing lure history of this small town I found a great article which has uncovered some patents and other info to the area in the early 1890’s tying the JD ALLEN ANTIQUE LURE FISH SPOON to the same era and place. Rare piece considering it being such a small town and that fishing lure production was at its very early beginnings at the time. Wonderful historic piece perfect for historic framing and display.
