Lifelong Collection Of Atlases Photo Albums CDV's Cab Cards Negatives Vintage
This collection has been a lifelong pursuant of various interests. I have collected for over 35 years with heavy concentration from the mid 1980’s to 2011. I have a 1300 square basement filled with atlases, binders full of vintage letters, hundreds of Civil War letters, thousands of photo albums, thousands of CDV’s, cabinet cards and negatives; glass and celluloid. Health issues have delayed me being able to be around to supervise inspections and I have had to put off doing so twice. Two years ago I had interest from two different parties and it was clear that not enough time had been set aside to adequately inspect the inventory. What happened (I do not want to break the collection up and sell certain items to multiple parties) is I was offered to sell parts of the collection like photo albums, glass negatives, etc. I was not interested in doing so. The asking price is significantly less than my investment, and is priced accordingly. Included are complete collections from S. Bates, a minister that was President Garfield’s Sunday school teacher. Included are hundreds of letters, many of the Civil War as well as diaries of a 100 plus days he traveled as a chaplain during the height of the Civil War. There are many other diaries and misc. I will be amending the listing as time goes on providing more details on items. I may have two Confederate Civil War letters, that’s it. The black folders on shelves are filled with thousands of stampless letters. Most that have been translated. Other items are original primary voting records relating to Lincoln in Illinois as well as thousands of celluloid negatives. As I referenced, I have many hand drawn sketches, maps (nothing great regarding maps) and signed letters from poets such as Frost. Many of the black binders are from the estate of King Hostick, a well known Lincoln expert. Obviously, rows of photo albums are apparent. The square shelves as well as two other large bookcases are negatives. I considered linking a video from YouTube. The same goes for additional photographs.
