These were taken before Arizona gained its Statehood and was known as The Arizona Territory. This was the real Wild West of cowboys and Indians. Where Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday stayed for awhile. There are a total of (180) historic photos in this album. This album belonged to a family that worked on a stagecoach line between Prescott and Phoenix and other towns on that route while railroads were being finished. I could not locate any surnames but for those who know your history, there may be a photo here of one of the founders of Prescott. Lots of old men who would have been some of the first Americans to the area. These people were tough. It took days and weeks to get to another location and the desert weather was brutal. One of the most valuable photos is image of the railroad being built. It is clear and 4×5 in size. It shows wood piled up along the side and temporarily shacks for the railroad workers. The metal rails have been laid but the planks have not. In 18971912 you had the Santa Fe, Prescott & Phoenix Railway completed. In 1912 by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. I could not distinguish which one this is or if it was connecting one. Again, this is where a true historian could do his homework. There are photos of Native American Rock engravings / paintings petroglyphs Two photos of Native Americans from the Yavapai-Prescott tribe. One is a woman sitting on the ground with a watermelon. The other is a young Yavapai man wearing an American’s Army captains hat. One photo of an old Spanish Mission in Prescott with many bells and a Desert Palm Tree Two photos of a magnificent stagecoach with a ton of people on it. This one looks like it is from the 1860’s. Photo of a stagecoach line called the Pioneer Stage. A wealthy woman sits with her tiny dog. She looks so out of place in that harsh environment. Photo of a man on a wagon with two children. One superb photo of a family having a picnic with Granite Mountain in the distance. Homes in the Avondale area of Prescott when it was called Coldwater Springs Tough women holding shotguns for protection, riding in wagons Many photos from Granite Dells that is northeast of Prescott Photos of Sierra Prieta, the main landmark scene from Prescott Photos identified as Coldwater Springs which is now the Avondale area of Prescott. One reads Coldwater Springs at Mike’s Corner on a dirt road. Many wagons and horses on dirt roads. Wealthy women dressed in amazing fashion and hats for being in the desert. They still wanted to look like ladies on Sunday. Two are identified as Mission Camp. Many of children that had a kitten or dog to play with. One photo shows some railroad tracks coming into Prescott at the time. It may have been for the Prescott and Eastern railroad. Photos of a large steamship.
