Alloah Dallas was born blind with the eye infection, ophthalmia neonatorum and abandoned by her birth parents. When she was six years old, she was legally adopted by the Elks and was christened Dallas. Elk for her benefactors and given her birth date. Later, she chose her first name Alloah in remembrance of Mrs. Butler, which was confirmed by the State legislature. Alloah was enrolled at the Blind Institute in Austin, when seven years old. Alloah later graduated from Ursuline Academy in Dallas and Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. She spoke three languages. 7, 1915, the Elks held a solemn ceremony at the Forest Park Zoo, where a newly- born elk was named- Alloah for the ward. She was then made a life-time member of the Dallas lodge. Through school musical training and special tutors employed by the Dallas Elks, Alloah became an accomplished violinist, organist and pianist. Alloah travelled throughout the United States, giving small concerts to Elks, Lions, Scottish Rite orders, U. Veterans and other groups. With the first Educational Week for the Blind in 1930, she played piano with The Twelve Scottish Rite Singers in the Dallas Municipal Auditorium. Three thousand people attended.
